Health and Safety for the Crane Industry

All workplace safety is important, but crane safety is critical because of how devastating accidents related to cranes can be. All crane owners and operators know that they are engaged in high-risk work. They also know that the consequences of lifts which do not go to plan can be catastrophic both for the workforce and plant and equipment, not to mention their professional reputation. The likelihood of encountering regulators in the crane industry is probably higher than any other industry.
Ironically, experience tells us that many crane companies in Australia don’t employ full-time safety personnel in their business. Perhaps this is in part because of the intermittent nature of crane work and secondly the associated cost of employing Health and Safety employees.
At Enable we believe we have the solution. But why us?

Enable’s construction safety pedigree is well-established. We have successfully managed crane safety and developed crane safety programs on some of Australia’s biggest projects; Chevron’s $74 billion Gorgon Project and Nyrstar’s $640 million Transformation Project in Port Pirie (see attached footage) to name but two.
This doesn’t mean we think we know more about cranes than Crane companies. That would be ridiculous! What we do know about however is setting-up industry leading safety systems that complement not hinder crane companies.

  • Our most recent cranes project and an example of what we can do for you!
We have been recently engaged to assist a medium-sized Crane and Access business in western Victoria. The following project deliverables were requested and successfully delivered to our client:
    • Conducted a detailed Gap Analysis comprising a comprehensive Legislative Compliance Audit, AS/NZS 4801 Conformance Audit and a thorough Workplace Inspection. ($3,000)
    • Developed a customised and comprehensive Health and Safety Management System in collaboration with our client and their employees ($3,000)
    • Implemented cloud-based technology to allow all staff to access the Health and Safety System via Ipads or Smart Phones (1,500 approx)
    • Fully automated all Health and Safety functions using the latest software and QR Scanner technology reducing paperwork and needless duplication by 80%. This also included the supply of a comprehensive Health and Safety system, Maintenance Management system, completed Training Needs Analysis, implemented E-Learning, Contractor Management and Return to Work modules. (included in $1,500)
The Project was an overwhelming success. The client has now engaged Enable to work two days per month in their workplace to ensure the system is kept up to date and to steer the Crane Company towards ISO accreditation. ($2,000/month).
So, if you are looking for a company who understands the issues and risks which confront your business, who have a cranes construction pedigree that is second to none and comes at the fraction of the cost of a full-time employee, then you may want to consider partnering with us.
