Occupational Noise Management

Too much noise at work can lead to temporary or permanent hearing loss, or tinnitus – ringing in the ears. Hearing damage can occur from extended exposure to noise, or from a sudden explosive sound.Over the past four years more than 10,000 workers have been affected by noise-related injuries in NSW workplaces, with more than 90 per cent left permanently disabled.

We provide simple compliance solutions for noisy workplaces that are affordable.
Don’t send your workers off-site for Audiometric Testing. Let us test them in your workplace, minimising downtime and saving you money.  Our mobile hearing clinics are fitted with a soundproof booth, modern testing equipment and the latest software, ensuring an accurate, cost effective hearing test.

AUDIOMETRIC TEST ONLY We collect employee data, conduct an audiometric (air conduction) test, print off a copy of the test report for the employee and explain the test results. We can also provide a selection of management reports and statistics. This option does not include education. That would be provided in a group toolbox session.
AUDIOMETRIC TEST AND COMPLIANCE EDUCATION. We collect employee data then provide one-on-one hearing information, training and instruction to comply with the new Code of Practice. We then conduct an audiometric (air conduction) test, print off a copy of the test report for the employee and explain the test results. We can also provide a selection of management reports and statistics. Failure to provide prescribed information training and instruction can attract penalties.

EAR PLUG FIT TESTING. Our experience shows that workers exposed to high noise levels who wear ear plugs have more hearing loss than those workers who wear ear muffs. We can now test ear plug fit and we have found that very few workers fit their ear plugs properly. It is not uncommon to find workers only achieve 10db attenuation from a 25db earplug. We get workers to fit their earplugs the way they usually fit them then we test to see what attenuation they achieve. We then provide training on how to fit the earplug correctly then conduct fit testing until the correct attenuation is achieved. Ear canals vary in size and shape and not all workers will be protected using standard earplugs. Some workers cannot get adequate protection from standard issue ear plugs and may need a different type of ear plug or even custom moulded ear plugs.

Know exactly what noise hazards exist in your business by having us complete a Noise Assessment which will measure and record the noise levels in your business to enable you to take action to reduce employee’s exposure to excessive noise and provide workers with information, training and instruction that helps protect their hearing.
The easiest way to comply with the legislation, is to set up a simple Noise Management Plan that provides evidence of the actions you have taken to achieve compliance and for records management. A Noise Management Plan should include,

  • Noise Management Policy
  • Noise Management Procedures
  • Noise Assessment Records
  • Risk Analysis
  • Action Plans
  • Employee education, PPE and Hearing test records

Enable Safety Solutions can help you to achieve compliance quickly and inexpensively. We offer a simple Noise Management Compliance Pack that includes a draft Noise Management policy and procedure, some noise assessments, a risk assessment, noise and hearing education plus records of any education and testing.

We can help manage your plan or set it up so you can manage it yourself. We can also help with supervisor training, toolbox meetings, earplug fit tests and advice on PPE and audiometric testing.
